Omaha By Design will present the 2011 Laurels Award, its highest honor, to Midtown Crossing at the design group's annual awards luncheon Tuesday. The honor is presented annually to an individual, organization or business that has made significant contributions to the creation of great public spaces in the metro area.

Nine-year-old Joe Buckley of Omaha put his Pokémon trading card skills to the test and came out the winner of the Play! Pokémon Trading Card Game City Championship Tournament in Lincoln. He is now preparing for the March state tournament.

Two-year-old Kamden Norman of Omaha may not know his ABC's yet, but he has a $3,500 scholarship contribution, courtesy of First National Bank of Omaha and Omaha Children's Museum. He was announced as the winner of a scholarship contest in honor of their "Dinosaurs: Dawn of the Ice Age" exhibit. The money was put in a NEST Direct 529 College Savings Plan account in Kamden's name.

The Ritonya Buscher Poehling Scholarship Fund is marking its 35th anniversary this year. The group originally made grants to students to attend college and later started a teacher grant program.
