Bob Kerrey needs more time.
The Democrat says he and his family are weighing the impact of a possible Senate run, and he doesn't expect to make a decision this week.
The former Nebraska governor and U.S. senator noted he was a bachelor when he ran for public office in the past. This time, he has a wife, Sarah Paley, and a 10-year-old son, Henry. And the entire family lives in New York City.
“My marriage has given me great happiness; I do not intend to mess it up. So I am going to make certain we have thought this through very carefully before I say yes or no,” he said Thursday.
Kerrey created a stir in the political world this month, when he announced he was considering a return to Nebraska to run for retiring Sen. Ben Nelson's seat. He originally said he expected to make a decision in the third week of January.
Now, he said, he needs more time.
