Two Schuyler, Neb., residents involved in a fatal one-vehicle accident Saturday on Interstate 135 in Kansas have been released from hospitals.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said seven people were southbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban approximately four miles north of McPherson, Kan., at 11:10 a.m. when the vehicle entered the median and rolled over several times. Five passengers were ejected, three of whom died as a result of their injuries.

Driver Luis Medina, 48, who was wearing a seat belt, remained in the vehicle and was treated for minor injuries at McPherson Hospital in McPherson, Kan. He told investigators that he probably fell asleep in the moments before the SUV crashed.

Daniel Medina, 1, who was strapped in a car seat and remained in the vehicle, was treated at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., and released.

It was unclear whether the dead and injured were related, but many had the same surname and all lived in Schuyler.

Martha Q. Medina, 45, and Daisy Medina Quezada, 10, died at the scene. Adrian M. Quezada, 36, died at McPherson Hospital.

Augustina Medina, 26, and Natalie Medina, 4, were taken by helicopter to Wesley Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that Augustina Medina was in critical condition and Natalie Medina was in fair condition.
