District sets bond election

FIRTH, Neb. (AP) — School officials say lower interest rates and the pending retirement of other bonds will let $14 million in new bonds be issued without harming the tax levy for Norris School Districts in southeast Nebraska.

A mail-in bond election has been scheduled. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters on or around Feb. 23-25. They must be returned by March 13.

The money would go for building an intermediate elementary facility and renovating the high school building.

Norris Elementary's enrollment is approaching 780 students, nearly 97 percent of capacity.

The Norris School Districts serves nine small communities: Roca, Hickman, Firth, Cortland, Panama, Princeton, Holland, Cheney and Rokeby.

The elementary, middle and high school buildings share a campus about 12 miles south of Lincoln.
