The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has postponed a vote on a proposal to extend employee benefits to domestic partners of NU employees.
Not all eight members of the board will be able to attend next week's regents meeting due to scheduling conflicts, board chairman Bob Whitehouse said in a news release.
The board plans to take up the proposal at a later meeting.
At the regents' October meeting, NU President J.B. Milliken presented the proposal, which would offer health insurance coverage to the same-sex or opposite-sex live-in partners of NU employees.
No one on the board opposed the plan. Five regents indicated support, and the others said they wanted more details before making a decision.
If approved, the new benefits would take effect July 1.
The regents still are scheduled to meet Dec. 8 at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln.
Committee meetings begin at 9 a.m., and the board meeting starts at 10:30 a.m.
