Holiday travelers should beware of high winds tonight into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong winds of 35 mph to 45 mph, accompanied by gusts of 50 mph to 60 mph, could blow across Nebraska. The strongest winds should hit Saturday, according to the National Weather Service office in Valley, Neb.

The wind could affect motorists, especially on roads running west to east and high-profile vehicles, forecasters said.

A high wind warning was issued for most of west and central Nebraska from midnight Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday. A high wind advisory is in place for eastern Nebraska and western Iowa from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

It should be breezy in Omaha tonight with winds gusting as high as 30 mph. It will continue to be blustery in the metro Omaha area Saturday with wind gusts up to nearly 60 mph, according to AccuWeather Inc., The World-Herald's weather consultant.
