ROCK CANDY

Record Store Day strikes in time for Christmas

« Go

Sometimes, a holiday comes twice a year.

You can say that for Record Store Day, which isn't really an official holiday, but it feels like one for music lovers (myself included).

Record Store Day is celebrated annually in April.

But on Friday, Record Store Day presents "Back To Black Friday," a sort of miniature RSD at independent record stores. Though it's a smaller affair, there are still lots of exclusive releases to check out.

And if you aren't the music/vinyl lover in the house, you still may be able to do some Christmas shopping on Friday.

Both Homer's Music and Drastic Plastic will open at 9 a.m. Drastic will have coffee and hot cider for those standing in line.

These are the releases I'm looking forward to:

Iron and Wine, "Live at KCRW" — A live recording of the band's appearance on "Morning Becomes Eclectic."

The Beatles, "The Singles" — Four 7-inch singles in a heavy, flip-top box with a poster. The singles include "Ticket To Ride"/"Yes It Is," "Hey Jude"/"Revolution," "Something"/"Come Together" and "Yellow Submarine"/"Eleanor Rigby."

The Black Keys, "Lonely Boy"/ "Run Right Back" — Before the band's new record, "El Camino," comes out in December, the band releases two tracks.

Rolling Stones, "No Spare Parts" — An unreleased track from the sessions for Some Girls on a 7-inch single with "Before They Make Me Run" as a b-side.

Wilco, "Speak Into The Rose" — A 10-inch vinyl EP with four songs: "Art Of Almost" (alternate version), "I Might" (demo version), "Speak Into The Rose" and "Message From Mid-Bar."

The Civil Wars, "Tracks In the Snow" — The rising-star down-home country duo re-releases its holiday EP (with two live tracks) on 10-inch vinyl.

Silversun Pickups, "Seasick" — Three as-yet-unreleased tracks: "Seasick," "Broken Bottles" and "Ribbons & Detours."

Nirvana, "Nevermind: The Singles" — A set of 10-inch vinyl singles.

Craig Finn, "Honolulu Blues"/ "Rented Room" — A 7-inch single featuring two tracks from Finn's upcoming solo album.
