Two people died in traffic accidents Saturday on Nebraska roads.

In south-central Nebraska’s Gosper County, Guadalupe Hernandez, 20, of rural Smithfield was killed about 2:15 p.m. roughly six miles north of Smithfield. Authorities said Hernandez was hauling corn when he failed to stop at an intersection. His grain truck struck a dirt embankment.

In southeast Nebraska’s Pawnee County, Steven Epps, 57, of Tulsa, Okla., died about 6 p.m., nearly five miles south of Burchard. Authorities said Epps was driving at high speed near the junction of Nebraska Highways 8 and 99 when he was unable to make a turn. His vehicle rolled in a field west of Pawnee City. Epps was thrown from the vehicle.

Pawnee County authorities said they were investigating whether alcohol was a factor. Epps was not wearing a seat belt.

Jefferson County authorities said Epps’ car was also involved in a crash earlier Saturday. It occurred about 30 miles west of the rollover, near Steele City, about 5:25 p.m. Four people in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
