A flood-damaged stretch of Interstate 680 will reopen to traffic on Wednesday, nearly a month ahead of schedule.
The Iowa Department of Transportation said Friday that the 3.1-mile segment between the Missouri River bridge and Interstate 29 will be ready for drivers.
The roadway will reopen following a 2 p.m. Wednesday ceremony with state and local officials at the 130th Street bridge over I-680.
Less than a month ago, flood-damaged Interstate 680 just north of Council Bluffs was a crumbled mess.
Due to nice weather and 14-hour workdays, the contractor was able to beat the timeline for completing the project.
"This is great news for everybody," said Dena Gray-Fisher, spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Transportation. — Sam Womack
