Omaha-area dentists will buy unopened, wrapped Halloween candy from children next week. Participating dentists include:
» Dr. Barbara J. Ries will have her 11th annual Halloween candy buy-back from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Nov. 7 at her office, 624 N. 129th St., Suite 100. Ries will pay $1 for each pound of unopened candy collected. The sweets will be donated to the Open Door Mission and Treats for Troops. Ries also will visit St. Vincent De Paul School on Nov. 8 to meet the students and weigh all the extra Halloween candy.
» Dr. Ralph Corpuz and the Corpuz Family Dentistry team will have their scales ready for buying back still-wrapped Halloween candy from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the office, 13025 Arbor St. behind Garden Ridge near 132nd Street and West Center Road. The office will pay $1 a pound and send the candy to U.S. troops. The office also will be collecting canned food items to help the hungry in Omaha.
» Dr. Amber Allen DDS Aesthetic & Family Dentistry, 3506 N. 147th St., Suite 100, will buy back unopened Halloween sweets for $1 per pound (5-pound maximum) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. All candy will be sent to Nebraska troops serving overseas. An oversized thank-you card will accompany the candy.
» Gosch Family Dental, 9840 S. 168th Ave., Suite 4, will have a Halloween candy exchange from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Bring in wrapped candy to exchange for healthy snacks, prizes, xylitol-sweetened candy, goody bags or money. Visitors also can make greeting cards to be mailed to soldiers. All the swapped candy and cards will be sent to troops serving overseas.
» Dr. Michael Obeng, owner of the Emergency Dental Care USA office in Omaha, will have his second Halloween candy buyback from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at his office, 84th Street and West Center Road. He will pay $1 a pound for prepackaged, unopened candy, up to 5 pounds per child. Candy collected will be sent to U.S. troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.
» Dr. Tracy Bridgen is participating in the Nationwide Halloween Candy Buy-Back program in which candy collected will go to the troops in Afghanistan via Operation Gratitude. He will pay $1 a pound, with up to 5 pounds maximum for an individual, at his office, Legacy Dental, 17602 Wright St., Suite 105. He will accept larger amounts of candy from charitable groups. Hours will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
