A 55-year-old Denton, Neb., man died from injuries he suffered Monday in a traffic accident south of Lincoln.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said a preliminary investigation indicated that Robert Michaud was southbound at a high rate speed on U.S. Highway 77 about 11 miles south of Lincoln in a 2002 Chevrolet van when he lost control of the vehicle about 4:25 p.m. The van struck a John Deere combine that was being towed by a 1996 Chevy pickup truck driven by Gary Behrends, 60, of Princeton.
Behrends, who was not injured, was heading east and had stopped at a stop sign at Hallam Road.
Michaud had to be cut from his van and was taken by medical helicopter to a Lincoln hospital, where he died about 11 p.m. Authorities said Michaud was wearing a seat belt.
