Police nab drunken drivers

The Omaha Police Department wrapped up a three-week crackdown on drunken driving with nearly 75 drivers arrested for impairment.

The department's special operation began Aug. 19 as part of the nationwide "You Drink You Drive You Lose" traffic campaign.

Authorities conducted 14 special patrols throughout Omaha.

Among the results:

• 50 charges for first-offense driving under the influence.

• 18 charges for second-offense DUI.

• five charges for felony-offense DUI.

• 22 arrests for minor in possession of alcohol.

• 25 arrests for operating a vehicle on a suspended license.

• 12 arrests for possession of marijuana and drug equipment.

• 291 citations for speeding.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety awarded $24,000 to pay for operation.
