A majority of this year's Super Six likely will get a chance to help build up the revived Nebraska-Iowa rivalry once their high school days are through.
But they might not end up being Huskers.
The World-Herald's newest collection of the Midlands' top college prospects has a distinct Iowa flavor, and the star high school seniors are already taking sides in the new Big Ten battle.
There's Giltner's Drew Ott, a linebacker and tight end who surprised even his coach by committing to the Hawkeyes instead of waiting for a potential offer from Nebraska. He's joined in Iowa's 2012 class by Sioux City Heelan running back Michael Malloy.
Cambridge lineman Mike Shoff is stuck in the middle. He's ready to prove he could be Nebraska's next great defensive tackle if given the chance, but he has a scholarship offer from Iowa already on the table.
So far, only one Super Six selection has received that coveted scholarship from NU in a lean recruiting year. That exception is Lincoln Southeast's Sam Cotton, a multi-talented Husker commitment who — speaking of that Iowa theme — sandwiched his years living in the Capital City around a four-year stay in Ames, Iowa.
As for our final two Super Six seniors? They could end up playing for former Husker foes. Lincoln Southwest quarterback Tavarius (Tay) Bender has been firmly committed to Kansas State since March. The first school to extend an offer to Blair linebacker/fullback Jake Schany was Colorado.
Others to watch for this fall include Omaha Burke linemen Hunter Green and James Anderson, Omaha North running back D.J. Avant, Howells lineman Jordan Brichacek, Aurora center Garrett Johns, Norfolk Catholic kicker Drew Farlee and Crete quarterback Derek McGinnis.
