Mold delays school start

STERLING, Neb. (AP) — A mold problem is delaying the start of school in Sterling.

The mold was discovered in the Sterling Public School’s lower levels during routine summer cleaning. Superintendent Larry Harnisch said the mold was found in the locker rooms and weight room.

Classes were supposed to begin Monday. Now they’re scheduled to begin Aug. 22.

It’s unclear whether the end of the school year also will be pushed later. Harnisch said that depends on winter school cancellations and other factors.

Sterling is in southeast Nebraska’s Johnson County.
