WICHITA, Kan. — Three gold medal performances and two association records led the way Saturday for Nebraska Association athletes at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics.
Kurtis Cotton of the Bellevue Breeze took 0.50 seconds off the Nebraska Association record in winning the midget boys (ages 11-12) 200-meter dash at Wichita State. Cotton’s time of 23.66 replaces the 24.16 run by Darian Trout-Brown of Lincoln in 2008 and won Saturday’s race by 0.67 seconds.
Seth Hirsch of the Omaha Racers won the midget boys 3,000 in 9:55.34 and Matthew Medill of the Lincoln Jets was first in the sub-bantam boys (8-and-under) long jump with a leap of 13-¾.
The other association record was by Katelyn Gochenour of the Cornhusker Flyers when she finished fourth in the youth girls (13-14) javelin at 121-4.
Aries Phillips of Omaha United won a pair of silver medals Saturday by finishing second in the midget girls 200 (25.57) and long jump (15-11).

Youth boys: 6, Ethan Rue, CFTC, 153-2; 7, Kenton Kobza, Jets, 150-1; 200: 7, Fonta Jones-Whitfield, Omaha, 23.51. Intermediate girls: 3,000: 2, Rebekah Topham, CFTC, 10:32.96.
