    Nebraska Association earns 10 more medals

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Nebraska Association athletes earned 10 more medals during the final two days of the USA Track and Field Youth Athletics national championship meet.

    Two athletes from southwest Iowa competing for the Cornhusker Flyers Track Club — Rebekah Topham of Griswold and Katelyn Gochenour of Logan – both won a gold and silver medal.

    Topham won the Intermediate Girls (ages 15-16) 3,000-meter run in 10:46.79 and finished second in the 1,500 in 4:43.23, missing the gold medal by just 0.17 seconds.

    Gochenour won the Youth Girls (13-14) discus with a throw of 113-3 and was second in the javelin at 116-3. Emilee Shostrom of the Lincoln Jets was seventh in the javelin at 81-4.

    Millard South senior Clara Nichols was sixth in the Young Women’s (17-18) 400 in 55.45, and Omaha Roncalli graduate Kristie Mullen was eighth in the Young Women’s 1,500 in 5:10.49.

    Three Nebraska Association athletes medaled in the Youth Boys shot put — Liam Hennessy (3rd, 42-11) and Ethan Ruh (6th, 42-7½) of the Flyers, and Kenton Kobza (7th, 36-9) of the Jets.
