Vasquez leads medal winners

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Nebraska Association athletes are earning their share of medals through the first four days of competition at the USA Track and Field Association Youth Athletics national championship meet.

Andy Vasquez of Omaha won the youth boys (ages 13-14) 3,000-meter race walk in 18 minutes, 18.51 seconds.

Kennedy Gochenour of Logan, Iowa, won the midget girls (11-12) mini-javelin with a throw of 87 feet, 2 inches. She also finished third in the discus (67-6) and seventh in the shot put (24-11).

Gochenour’s older sister, Katelyn, was second in the youth girls shot with a best of 42-4, and Emilee Shostrom of the Lincoln Jets was fourth in the event at 38-6.

Millard South senior Clara Nichols qualified seventh in 56.47 in the young women’s (17-18) 400 meters.

Other Nebraska Association medalists:

Youth boys discus: 3, Kenton Kobza, Jets, 153-10; 6, Liam Hennessy, Cornhusker Flyers, 106-5. Young women’s discus: 2, Michelle Wallerstedt, Omaha, 136-1.
