NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Chase Wright pitched 7-2⁄3 solid innings and Mat Gamel homered to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3-2 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Friday in the finale of a five-game series.
Gamel’s two-run homer capped a three-run first inning for the Sounds, who struck in their initial at-bat for the second time in the series.
Storm Chasers starter Kevin Pucetas recovered from the rough opening to finish with four scoreless innings, but he took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits.
STORM TRACKING: Kansas City prospect Mike Montgomery, who had been scheduled to pitch Friday, is healthy but had his turn in the rotation skipped. The 21-year-old left-hander, 2-4 with a 5.83 ERA, is winless in nine starts since May 4, and leads the Pacific Coast League with 46 walks. Pucetas started in place of Montgomery, who gave up nine runs on 10 hits in three innings in his last start. ... Outfielder David Lough was out of the lineup for a third straight game with a strained hamstring. ... Kansas City optioned left-handed reliever Everett Teaford to Omaha to clear a spot on its roster for pitcher Bruce Chen, who was activated from the disabled list.
