SPRAGUE, Neb. (AP) — Lancaster County authorities cited a Hampton couple on suspicion of child neglect after their 2-year-old son wandered away from their picnic site at a lake south of Lincoln.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said the parents noticed the boy was missing about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Bluestem Lake, which is west of Sprague. A search of the picnic area and lake soon began. Some searchers went into the lake, fearing the boy had drowned.
About 30 minutes later, a man driving on a road south of the lake found the toddler. The little boy was wandering about 200 feet north of the road and about a half-mile from the picnic site where he was last seen.
