HAMPTON, Neb. – Hampton School District patrons have approved a levy override by more a than 2 to 1 margin.
In a mail-in election, 277 voters approved the override versus 113 who voted against the measure, said Hamilton County Clerk Pat Anderson.
The Hampton School Board decided to ask for the 15 cent levy override after determining that the state-allowed $1.05 levy wasn’t going to let the district meet its budget.
The override allows the district to levy up to $1.20 for one year. The district is in the final year of a levy override that was approved in 2006 for up to 40 cents. Although it never used more than 26 cents of the authority. This year the levy was at $1.16.
Anderson said there was a 67 percent turnout for the election. She said mail-in elections traditionally have better turnouts and mean less work and expense for the county.
