Breakfast in Benson opens farmers market
The Benson Farmers Market will kick off its fourth season Saturday with a pancake and sausage breakfast.
The 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. breakfast will be held on Military Avenue at Maple Street, between 61st and 62nd Streets. The breakfast will go on rain or shine.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.
Hot Shops holding weekend open house
The Hot Shops Art Center, 1301 Nicholas St., will hold its annual Spring Open House from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event will feature art demonstrations, live music, a food court and a chance to buy artwork. More than 40 artist studios will be open.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Carillon concert will be Saturday evening
A 45-minute carillon concert will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Attendees are invited to stand or sit on the grassy area between the Criss Library and the Strauss Performing Arts Center. Music professor James Johnson and graduate student Shannon Richards will play the carillon.
Cleanup is Saturday at Carter Lake
The Carter Lake Preservation Society’s annual cleanup of Carter Lake will be Saturday. Volunteers will spend the morning hauling debris and trash from the lake and its shore.
Volunteers who would like to help should be at Mabrey Park, 17th Street and Willow Drive in Carter Lake, at 9 a.m. Breakfast, lunch and other refreshments will be provided.
The cleanup should be done by noon.
Aksarben Village party a salute to teachers
The merchants in Aksarben Village will hold a party for educators in the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Stinson Park, 67th Street and Mercy Road.
The event is open to the public and activities will include bouncers, live music and face painting. The sponsors are Aksarben Village, LearningHQ and Wohlner’s Market.
The first 1,000 Learning Community teachers with school district identification will receive a ticket for a free lunch.
WWII will be topic of panel presentation
Realtalkers Toastmasters and CDA America, a group that promotes well-being for senior citizens, will have a panel presentation Friday featuring World War II veterans. Guests are welcome at the 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. event at the Omaha Area Board of Realtors office, 11830 Nicholas St.
One of the presenters will be Bill Williams who, along with his wife, Evonne, created the Heartland Honor Flights.
