LINCOLN (AP) — The Nebraska State Board of Education has approved federally funded grants for eight new before- and after-school programs in the eastern part of the state.
More than $1 million in grants will help establish programs at various schools in Omaha, Crete, Nebraska City, Bellevue, La Vista and York.
The State Department of Education said the programs will provide extra help for students in reading, math and other subjects. Such programs also are intended to improve grades and reduce risky behaviors.
The department said seven programs at 14 other schools across the state will continue to receive federal grants for 21st Century Community Learning Center programs. The centers are designed to improve student learning and promote positive behavior.
