Ex-officer guilty of harassment

A 31-year-old former Bellevue police officer was convicted Thursday of harassing women over the telephone.

In a plea deal, Tim Pinkerton pleaded no contest to two counts of intimidation by phone call and two counts of disturbing the peace, all misdemeanors.

Sarpy County Court Judge Jeffrey Funke found Pinkerton guilty and scheduled his sentencing for April. Pinkerton faces up to a year in jail, up to a $2,000 fine or both.

Pinkerton, who had worked as a Bellevue officer for about 3½ years, resigned from the Police Department in December.

Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey said two women filed complaints against Pinkerton last summer. An investigation found that Pinkerton had made calls to the women from his personal phone while he was off duty.

Matt Lathrop, an attorney representing one of the women, said his client was arrested by Pinkerton in 2009. According to Lathrop, Pinkerton gained access to the woman's contact information during the arrest and called her from a blocked number.

At first, Lathrop said, the caller would not say anything, then later the woman would hear heavy breathing and vulgar sexual references.
