Fire destroys truck near Marne

MARNE, Iowa (AP) — Two truckers escaped from a fire that destroyed a semitrailer truck and its cargo of wine near Marne in western Iowa.

Cass County authorities said that the men were sleeping in the cab of the truck around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when they were alerted to flames from the refrigeration unit atop the trailer. They had parked the rig on the eastbound Marne on-ramp to Interstate 80.

The men tried unsuccessfully to separate the tractor and trailer. No injuries were reported.

The men’s names were not released.
