Omaha’s Holiday Lights Festival expands its activities this year to host Old Market Holiday Weekend.
The weekend starts with the opening of the ConAgra Foods Ice Rink on Friday at 6 p.m. (The rink will be open afternoons and evenings through December.)
On Saturday, the Old Market will be transformed into a Charles Dickens-themed village. Plans call for at least 24 actors to be outfitted to portray characters such as Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens, Scrooge and Father Christmas. They will stroll through the market and also visit the ConAgra Ice Rink. There will be a procession of horse-drawn carriages, and there will also be local musical groups performing holiday selections on the streets of the Old Market.
Also Saturday: self-guided tours ($5 admission) of selected Old Market residences to see the holiday decorations.
On Sunday afternoon the festivities resume when Old Market art galleries open their doors for tours and shopping.
The Holiday Lights Festival is produced by Mayor Jim Suttle and the Downtown Omaha Inc. Foundation and presented with support from ConAgra Foods and other businesses.
