Nebraska’s trip to the Big 12 championship game and a bowl invitation mean $250,000 in bonuses for head coach Bo Pelini.
A win over Oklahoma last Saturday night and a Fiesta Bowl bid would have made him $150,000 more.
Under terms of his contract, Pelini is owed $250,000 if the Huskers win the Big 12 title compared to $150,000 if they appear and lose in the championship game. Also, he is due $150,000 if NU qualifies for a BCS bowl instead of $100,000 for any bowl.
Nebraska (10-3) is headed to the Holiday Bowl after its 23-20 loss to OU.
Pelini, who had his annual salary bumped to $2.1 million last winter, received the same bonuses a year ago when NU lost 13-12 to Texas in the 2009 Big 12 final.
Also, NU contracts for assistant coaches call for each to receive 1/24 of his salary for a Big 12 North title and 1/12 of his salary for a non-BCS bowl. The bonus for a BCS bowl would have meant 1/6 of the salary for each.
The North and bowl bonuses range from about 21,875 for the lowest-paid assistants to around $47,500 for coordinators Shawn Watson and Carl Pelini.
