Of the last five mayors elected in Omaha, only P.J. Morgan (1989-1994) escaped a recall attempt. In addition to Mayor Jim Suttle, these mayors also were targeted:
Mike Boyle 1981-87
First attempt: Committee to Recall Mayor Boyle collects 15,852 signatures in May 1986, short of the 19,669 needed.
Second attempt: Committee for Mature Leadership reaches 19,669 threshold in November 1986. Boyle is voted out in January 1987.
Issues: Leadership, clashes with Omaha police, firing of Police Chief Robert Wadman.
Hal Daub 1995-2001
First attempt: Recall effort fails in February 1998. Organizers didn’t announce number of signatures collected.
Second attempt: About 1,500 signatures collected in March 1998, short of the 39,038 needed.
Issues: Resignation of public safety aide John Packett, police shooting of Marvin Ammons, gang statistics.
Mike Fahey 2001-09
Attempt: The Recall Fahey Committee collects 8,202 signatures in April 2009, short of 21,734 needed.
Issues: Annexation of Elkhorn, decision to tear down Rosenblatt Stadium, management style, police and fire pensions.
