Davenport OKs casino negotiations

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — The Davenport City Council has unanimously voted to work with a Chicago company that wants to build a $75 million casino and hotel in downtown.

The council voted Wednesday night to approve the development agreement with the company MSEG, LLC.

The next step is for the company to negotiate with Isle of Capri Inc., which runs a riverboat casino, to transfer a gaming license. Isle of Capri plans to downgrade its Davenport riverboat if it doesn't transfer its license to another company.

Mayor Bill Gluba noted that despite the council's vote, the process of transferring the license and building a new casino in Davenport wouldn't happen quickly and would require further action by officials.
