The Omaha Public Schools canceled classes Thursday at Ashland Park-Robbins Elementary School after a water-main break in the neighborhood left the school — and its 1,200 students — temporarily without running water, said a school district spokeswoman.
Parents were notified at about 9 a.m. Thursday that they should pick up students from the school at 5050 S. 51st St. as soon as possible, said OPS spokeswoman Luanne Nelson. Many students had already arrived for school.
The break was reported at 7:11 a.m. in a 6-inch water main at 4923 S. 52nd St., said Mari Matulka, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Utilities District.
Service was restored at 11:30 a.m., she said. Repairs to the break had been expected to take four hours.
Nelson said the school district got its first call indicating that the break was affecting the area about 8:15 a.m. It took some time to confirm how long the repair would take.
