SHELTON, Neb. (AP) — There’s so much mold in the air at a public housing complex in Shelton that residents are moving elsewhere.
The subsidized apartments are home to elderly or disabled people.
Elaine Wiseman is executive director of the Shelton Housing Authority. She says leases for the 18 units are being terminated effective Nov. 30 and that the authority is helping tenants find new places to live.
Wiseman says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development holds the lien on the property and will have to decide what to do about the mold problem.
She says the mold is probably in the attic and that the lack of attic ventilation may have been caused by a design flaw.
Mold can cause allergic reactions and other health problems.
