Studying the offensive numbers for Huskers

1:33 p.m.: Although Saturday night's performance was its worst, the Nebraska offense comes out of the nonconference schedule with its best scoring, rushing and total offense numbers in three seasons under head coach Bo Pelini.

The Huskers will head into Big 12 play averaging 40.0 points, 309.3 yards rushing, 162.0 passing and 471.3 total yards per game.

    By comparison:

    2009: 39.3 points, 183.8 yards rushing, 256.3 passing, 440.0 total.
    2008: 37.5 points, 155.5 yards rushing, 265.5 passing, 421.0 total.

Hard to make too much of it, since it's difficult to compare competition and the numbers always become more true after a few Big 12 games. Each of the 2010 figures, by the way, went down after the 17-3 win over South Dakota State.

Were some flaws exposed for the offense that hadn't come to the surface in the first three games? Only time will tell.

“We knew that things weren't as smooth (as they seemed), but teams have that,” NU quarterback Cody Green said. “That's football. There's going to be some games where you have to grit out a win, where you have to earn every yard that you get.”
