Pelini says Locker gives Huskers plenty to defend

12:30 p.m.: Nebraska coach Bo Pelini was complimentary of Jake Locker on Monday when discussing the Washington quarterback on the Big 12 teleconference.

“I think it's pretty obvious he's a heck of a player,” Pelini said. “He does a lot of good things. He can run it, he can throw it -- he can beat you in a lot of different ways and hurt you in a lot of different ways. We've got our work cut out for us.”

No. 8-ranked Nebraska (2-0) travels to Seattle for 2:30 p.m. CDT game Saturday against the Huskies (1-1).

Pelini said rushing with lane discipline yet creating pressure will be important for the Huskers. Of Locker's ability to both throw and run it well, Pelini said: “That's unusual these days.”

Other Pelini comments from the Big 12 call:

    > On the passing of Taylor Martinez, now 21 of 32 (65.6 percent) for 242 yards in two games: “I just think he's become more comfortable in the passing game and what we're asking him to do. There's still a long way to go as far as that's concerned, but I am seeing some progress, which is good to see.”

    > Looking back on the 10 penalties in the 38-17 win over Idaho: “There were some bad decisions in there, some unnecessary penalties, but a lot of times it was guys trying to be aggressive or trying to make the extra block, and that's a positive. … You have to know when to and when not to.”

    > On a question of how Washington coaches have said the NU offense appears similar to that of Pac-10 rival Oregon: “We want to be real multiple in what we do and create as many problems as we can for a defense. It wasn't like we sat and looked at Oregon and said we want to be Oregon. There's just maybe some aspects of it where it probably does look like Oregon.”
