    NU vs. WKU: Game Replay

    A brief look at key moments in Nebraska's 49-10 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.

    * * *

    PECULIAR PLAY

    The officials' biggest call of the game was a third-quarter review of a Western Kentucky fumble. When Bobby Rainey broke free for an apparent touchdown, DeJon Gomes ran him down and stripped the ball. But did Rainey cross the goal line? It was very close. Officials ruled fumble — keeping WKU out of the end zone.

    WHAT WAS THAT?

    An offensive lineman catching a pass. On a second-quarter screen, Rainey juggled the ball in the flat. It popped up in the air, where 306-pound offensive lineman Wes Jeffries corralled it. Western Kentucky was flagged for an illegal touch; Nebraska declined it.

    NOTICED

    Alonzo Whaley was all over the field. The sophomore linebacker looked like he would spend most of the season on the bench until Sean Fisher and Will Compton got hurt. Saturday he ran sideline to sideline harassing WKU. A good debut.

    RAVE REVIEW

    Brandon Kinnie emerged late in 2009 as a reliable target. But the junior receiver clearly had a big offseason. He caught six passes for a career-best 59 yards, demonstrating soft hands on a few snappy throws.
