Former Nebraska governor and U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey says he has “lots of thoughts” about his life after The New School, but he has made no plans.
Kerrey will remain president of The New School in New York until the end of this year. The dean of the Northwestern University School of Law has been appointed to replace him.
David E. Van Zandt will assume the post on Jan. 1, 2011.
Kerrey sought the Democratic nomination for president in 1992. He served as Nebraska governor from 1983-1987. He was a U.S. senator from Nebraska from 1989-2001.
He says he expects to live in New York but hopes to spend more time in Nebraska. He joined The New School in 2001.
While Kerrey, who turned 67 on Friday, says he wouldn't rule out a return to politics, he plans to "take on some cause that I care about."
He said he does not want to be a candidate again.
