Huskers complete Bahamas trip at 4-0

NASSAU, Bahamas — Nebraska completed its men’s basketball exhibition trip with a 4-0 record by routing Cybots on Friday night 87-59.

Forward Christian Standhardinger scored 22 points in 22 minutes. Transfer wing Caleb Walker had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals in 18 minutes. Forwards Brandon Ubel and Brian Diaz added 10 points each and a combined 13 rebounds.

“For the most part, it’s been a great trip,’’ NU coach Doc Sadler said. “I can’t tell you how much it has helped this team, probably more off the court than on.

“The 10 days we got to practice and the four games we got to play are really going to pay great dividends throughout the season.’’

Nebraska, leading 41-30 at halftime, went to a zone defense for the first time on the trip and outscored Cybots 28-10 in the third quarter.

“We can be pretty long in that zone,’’ said Sadler, whose team held the Cybots to two baskets in a seven-minute stretch.

Nebraska shot 54.8 percent from the field to 30.6 percent for Cybots. The negatives for NU were 3-point shooting (18.8 percent) and free throws (40 percent).
