IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Former Iowa football coach Hayden Fry returns to Iowa City next month for the Fry Fest — and an attempt to set a new Guinness world record by leading more than 4,400 fans in the hokey pokey.
The dance with the "shake it all about" became popular in 1940s and became a post-game tradition under Fry.
The current world record was set in 2003 in Toronto with 4,431 participants.
The Fry Fest is named after Fry, who led the Hawkeyes for 20 seasons.
The attempt at the hokey pokey record is set for Sept. 3
Iowa opens the football season on Sept. 4 against Eastern Illinois in Kinnick Stadium.
