SACRAMENTO — Eli Zoucha of the West O Throws set a national record Sunday in winning the Midget Boys (ages 11-12) shot put at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics.
Zoucha won by 5 feet, 2 inches with a toss of 53-8¼ and eclipsed the previous national best of 51-61⁄4 by Aaron Hanna of Miami in 2009.
The other Nebraska Association national champion on the final day of the six-day meet was Rebekah Topham of the Cornhusker Flyers Track Club, who won gold in the Youth Girls (13-14) 1,500-meter run in 4:41.21.
Alex Gochenour of the Flyers set an association record in the Young Women’s (17-18) 100 hurdles in 13.89, eclipsing the 14.16 she ran to set the record in Saturday’s prelims. LaQue Moen-Davis of the Midwest Striders finished fifth in 14.51.
Two other athletes earned medals Sunday. Kenzo Cotton of the Bellevue Breeze was fourth in the Youth Boys 100 in 11.44 after running 11.37 in Friday’s prelims, and Justin Liedke of the Flyers was sixth in the Midget Boys 1,500 in 4:40.18.
