SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Nebraska Association athletes won nine more medals and topped two of the association's oldest girls records Saturday at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics.
Leading the pack was LaQue Moen-Davis of the Midwest Striders, who won the young women's (ages 17-18) long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 7 inches.
Moen-Davis also set an association record in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles by qualifying third in 14.20, which betters the hand-held 14.0 run by Jackie Washington of Omaha in 1977.
The other association record was by Rebekah Topham of Griswold, Iowa and the Cornhusker Flyers Track Club. Topham finished second in the youth girls (13-14) 3,000-meter run in 10:07.58, bettering the 10:10.9 set by Shona Jones of Hastings in 1980.
Also winning gold on Saturday was Michelle Wallerstedt of the West O Throws, who took the intermediate girls (15-16) discus title with a toss of 146-0.
The six-day meet concludes Sunday.
