Young families effort will be discussed

Michelle E. Troxclair, program coordinator for the Center for Healthy Families at Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, will discuss a new Young Families Initiative at a Wednesday meeting.

She will speak at the noon luncheon gathering of the Hungry Club. It meets at Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering, 3223 N. 45th St. (45th and Bedford Streets).

Hungry Club meetings are open to the public. Food and drinks are Dutch treat.


Surviving menopause is focus of class

Methodist Physicians Clinic Women’s Center providers will share insights and information on how to survive and thrive through menopause.

The class will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Abbott/Barnard Room at the 717 Medical Office Building, 717 N. 190th Plaza.

Class will help you manage diabetes

Pre-registration is needed by Aug. 9 to attend a class in diabetes management for diabetics and their families.

It will be taught at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 to 19 at the Diabetes Education Center of the Midlands, 2910 S. 84th St., in Frederick Square Shopping Center.

Pawnee to be topic of speaker series

“Picturing the Pawnee: Nebraska Before the Diaspora” will be the topic of a 3 p.m. Sunday talk by John Carter.

The research historian for the Nebraska State Historical Society will speak as part of the Pawnee Speakers Series at the Pawnee Arts Center in Dannebrog, Neb.

The event is open to the public. Suggested donation: $6.

The talks continue at 3 p.m. other Sundays in August. Topics are “Building the Earth Lodge” on Aug. 8, “The North Brothers and Their Pawnee Scouts” on Aug. 15 and “Earth Lodge and Sod Houses” on Aug. 22.

The center will open at noon Sunday and on other Sundays in the speaker series.


Musical Soiree set in David City

Thursday’s third annual Musical Soiree on the Square in David City, Neb., will again offer free entertainment: music, comedy, activities for children and carriage rides.

The main performing groups and carriage rides are free and open to the public. Food vendors will charge fees.

The music will start at 5 p.m. Bring lawn chairs for this outdoor entertainment. Horse-drawn carriage rides will begin at 6 p.m.

Free activities for children will begin at 5:30 p.m. outside the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art.
