Track and Field: Omaha relay team wins gold medal

LISLE, Ill. — Nebraska Association athletes added 10 more medals — eight in individual events and two relays — to their collection Saturday at the USA Track and Field Youth Athletics outdoor championships at Benedictine University.

The two relay teams were from the Peak Performance club of Omaha. The midget boys (ages 11-12) team of Kupre Mitchell, DaShawn McGary, Cedrick Henderson-Smith and Michael Knowles defeated two other teams to win the 3,200-meter relay in 10:20.72.

Ronnell Lee, Lee Banks, Terry Grigsby and Dillion McCoy then teamed up to finish fourth in the intermediate boys (15-16) 400 relay in 43.98.

Rebekah Topham of Griswold, Iowa was runner-up in the youth girls (13-14) 3,000 in 10:20.18, and Lincoln’s Jeralyn Poe was fifth in 10:32.38.

Lincoln’s Kylie Gokie was second in the intermediate girls javelin with a throw of 112-11.

Other Nebraska Association medalists:

• Midget boys: 800: 5, Andy Vasquez, Omaha, 2:24.20.
• Youth girls: Discus: 8, Lauren Doeschot, Omaha, 93-2.
• Intermediate boys: 200: 6, James Parks, Lincoln, 22.55
• Young women: Javelin: 4, Anne Flesher, Lincoln, 97-10; 8, Clara Nichols, Omaha, 86-11.
