Moen-Davis wins her second gold

LISLE, Ill. — Nebraska Association athletes won 13 medals Friday during the fourth day of competition at the USA Track and Field Youth Athletics championship meet at Benedictine University.

Included in that haul were three more gold medals, including the second for Omaha North senior LaQue Moen-Davis. She won the young women’s (ages 17-18) triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 5¾ inches.

The other two first-place finishes came from girls javelin throwers. Katelyn Gochenour of Logan, Iowa, won the midget girls (11-12) mini-javelin with a toss of 122-5. Her younger sister Kennedy was fourth (79-9).

Omahan Lauren Doeschot won the youth girls (13-14) javelin with a best throw of 105-6. In the young women’s pole vault, Lauren Welch of Papillion-La Vista — the all-class gold medalist at the state high school meet — finished second by clearing 11-11¾.

Other Nebraska Association medalists:

• Bantam girls (9-10): High jump: 7 (tie), Josie Medill, Lincoln, 3-7¼.
• Midget girls: Discus: 3, Katelyn Gochenour, 88-8; High jump: 3, Kathleen Medill, Lincoln, 4-9.
• Intermediate girls (15-16): Long jump: 3, Anna Wageman, Omaha, 16-9¾.
• Intermediate boys: Triple jump: 4, Terry Grigsby, Omaha, 42-5¼.
• Young women: triple jump: 6, Darion Archie, Omaha, 34¼.
• Young men: Shot put: 5, Drew Staskiewicz, Omaha, 48-4¾; 8, Alex Beideck, Omaha, 46-2.
