Lisle, Ill. — Two champions from May’s state high school meet won gold medals Thursday on the third day of competition at the USA Track and Field Youth Athletics national championship meet.
LaQue Moen-Davis of Omaha North won the Young Women’s (ages 17-18) long jump with a leap of 19-8½, just six inches shy of the state high school record of 20-2½ that she jumped at the state meet.
The other gold medalist was Michelle Wallerstedt of Omaha Burke, who won the Intermediate Girls (15-16) discus with a throw of 145-4.
Three other area athletes won medals: Ryan Sanchez of Omaha, fourth, Youth Boys (13-14) shot put, 38-9½; Drew Staskiewicz of Omaha; fifth, Young Men’s discus, 153-1; and Paige Hackman of Woodbine, Iowa, seventh, Youth Girls high jump, 4-9.
