June 22: Spring's farewell tornado

The EF-2 tornado that struck Superior, Neb., Sunday evening traveled a path that was about 1,300 yards wide, according the survey concluded Monday by National Weather Service personnel from the Hastings office.

The tornado hit at 7:50 p.m. and reached maximum wind speeds of 120 mph. Outbuildings were significantly damaged, and trees fell on a number of homes and cars, according to Superior Fire Chief Todd Kroeger.

The twister was among 17 tornadoes reported across the U.S. on Sunday, the last full day of spring.
