“The Science of UFOs” will be the topic of the next Science Café, being held at 7 p.m. June 8, at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

The speaker will be Jack Kasher, Ph.D., University of Nebraska at Omaha professor emeritus of physics and astronomy.
Kasher is the Nebraska and central regional director for the Mutual UFO Network, an international organization dedicated to the scientific study of UFOs. He is past president of Paranormal Claims Research, a former statewide organization dedicated to the scientific study of paranormal phenomena.
Kasher was a UNO Peter Kiewit Distinguished Professor from 1981-87. From 1975-1992, he was a consultant and summer employee at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif., where he specialized in electromagnetic theory and, among other things, did work on the "Star Wars" defense system.
In 1991, he worked at NASA's Marshall Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, Ala., and continued his research with NASA, studying the surface of the sun, until he retired in 2001.
Science Café is a free educational event sponsored by the University of Nebraska Medical Center and other groups to increase science literacy. Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month.
