Warming says Penn State talk just rumors

    Bob Warming to Penn State?

The Creighton men's soccer coach says there's nothing to it.

Reached on his cell phone Sunday evening, Warming indicated that he has been out of town and that he was surprised by the questions he's been asked upon returning to Omaha.

“That rumor has been all over the place,” he said when asked if he was leaving for Penn State.

“I've been out of town on a cruise with my mother,” he said. “There's nothing to that.”

When asked to clarify, he responded again that he has been on a cruise with his mother.

Internet chat boards, including a discussion on Omaha.com, have broached the subject several times in the past several days. Warming had been unavailable to comment until Sunday night.

“There have been all kinds of people asking me all kinds of things,” Warming said before politely ending a short telephone conversation.

Warming's Bluejays posted a disappointing 7-4-5 record in 2009 and missed the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1991.

It was Warming's 14th year at Creighton and his ninth season on his second stint with the Bluejays. Widely regarded as one of the top coaches in the country, Warming coached the Bluejays from 1990-94, then left for Saint Louis University for four years before returning to Creighton prior to the 2001 season. In all, he's recorded 190 wins at Creighton.

Penn State's coach, Barry Gorman, stepped down on April 12 and the school immediately launched a national search.

Gorman is the program's all-time leader in coaching victories, compiling a 266-158-42 overall record and a 79-54-13 mark in Big Ten play in his 22 years as head coach.

The Nittany Lions finished 2009 with a 12-8-2 record, losing to Maryland in the NCAA tournament's second round.
