4:25 p.m.: Future Husker football players Tyler Wullenwaber and Ryne Reeves claimed Class B gold medals Friday during the first session of the Nebraska state high school track meet.
Wullenwaber won the high jump at 6 feet, 8 inches. The senior from Centennial is a receiver in football who is joining the NU program as a walk-on.
Reeves won the shot put with a best throw of 54 feet, 1 1/4 inches. The junior offensive lineman from Crete, who won't sign with the Huskers until next February, nosed out NU freshman-to-be Andrew Rodriguez of Aurora, who threw 53-11 1/4.
Saturday at Burke Stadium will include Wullenwaber and another future Husker receiver, Tyler Evans, facing off in both the 100- and 200-meter finals. Evans is a scholarship signee from Waverly.
In the 100, Wullenwaber ran 11.05 seconds and Evans was at 11.11 in qualifying heats. Evans is the defending Class B champion.
In the 200, Wullenwaber went 22.18 and Evans went 22.30 in preliminaries. Wullenwaber won the event a year ago.
Wullenwaber also will compete in the long jump and Evans in the 400 relay on Saturday. Wullenwaber is the defending champ in the long jump and owns a Class B season-best leap of 23-7.
Rodriguez still has the discus to go.
