12:20 a.m.: Ndamukong Suh even amazed Broderick Thomas a few times last season. One of Nebraska's all-time great defensive players isn't afraid to admit it.
"There were a couple times I was scratching my head and saying, 'Wait a second .... he didn't just do that, did he?' " Thomas said. "But he did it."
The images of Thomas and Suh will be on the cover of The World-Herald sports section Thursday accompanying a story on some former Huskers who were Top 10 picks in past NFL drafts. Suh, of course, is likely to go high when the 2010 NFL draft starts Thursday night.
Thomas, the No. 6 pick in 1989, thinks Suh should go No. 1.
"For a young man to put it together like he did and that young man put it together like no one else's business the kid just really did a great job," Thomas said.
"I remember talking to Ndamukong as a freshman, him and Barry Turner, and explaining what a Blackshirt is and how a Blackshirt should go about his business. And look what he did. Now it's his turn to go back to a freshman or sophomore and tell them."
Suh will leave quite a legacy, that's for sure. It was strengthened even more Saturday when his $2.6 million in donations were announced at the Husker spring game.
"Suh, what a young man," said Trev Alberts, the No. 5 pick in 1994. "What a great ambassador."
Some other Suh tidbits:
One would expect some flowery praise from Mack Brown on the NFL Network when Suh is being discussed Thursday night. The Texas coach dished out plenty of it before and after the Big 12 championship game, when Suh terrorized the Longhorns with 12 tackles and 4-1/2 sacks.
Brown will be on the NFL Network set with moderator Rich Eisen and analysts Mike Mayock, Charles Davis and Corey Chavous.
Wondering where Suh might make his NFL debut on Sept. 12? Here are the first-week assignments for the teams with the first three draft picks: St. Louis is at home against Arizona, Detroit plays at Chicago and Tampa Bay plays host to Cleveland.
