Republican Lee Terry hit the $1 million milestone in fundraising, but Democrat Tom White has stockpiled a healthy war chest, according to federal campaign reports released by the candidates Thursday.
Terry and White are running for the Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District seat.
Terry is a six-term incumbent, while White, a state senator, is making his first bid for Congress.
Both campaigns said they planned to have enough cash on hand to run aggressively this fall, bombarding voters with mail, telephone calls and advertisements.
"We continue to meet all of our fundraising targets and are running a campaign that will reach into all corners of Nebraska's 2nd District," said David Boomer, Terry's campaign manager.
"We will have the resources needed to contrast my record of effective, independent leadership with Terry's decade in Washington," said White.
The reports are due Thursday with the Federal Election Commission. They cover the period between Jan. 1 and March 31.
Terry outraised White over the three months, but not by an overwhelming margin. Terry raised $201,000, while White raised $150,000.
Both ended the period with plenty of cash.
Terry, who has raised a total of $1 million, had $633,000 in the bank.
White, who has raised a total of $534,000, had $460,000 in the bank.
Terry is being challenged in the Republican primary by Matt Sakalosky, who has raised a total of $21,455. Sakalosky reported having $189 cash on hand.
Over the past three months, Terry has spent $111,000.
White spent about $33,000.
Sakalosky, about $21,000.
