More than 1,000 volunteers helped nearly 500 homeless men and women Friday during an event at Creighton University.
Project Homeless Connect Omaha, which is in its third year, offered medical and dental services, vision screenings, haircuts, housing and job assistance and help dealing with misdemeanor warrants and requests for government aid. The event was held at Creighton's Kiewit Center.
Ed Shada, the event organizer, said he appreciated all the support from the community, sponsors and service providers. “This event is extraordinary.”
LaVena Gordon was among those who were helped on Friday. “I like the help that they're giving you, resources on things that I couldn't find on my own,” Gordon said.
