One down, 14 practices to go

8:19 p.m.: The first of 15 spring practice sessions is in the books for Nebraska. The Huskers' workout inside the Hawks Center was "OK," according to head coach Bo Pelini.

"It is what you would expect for the first day, but I really liked the effort and the intensity,'' he said. "Guys were flying around."

Pelini said Wednesday that offensive guard Ricky Henry is going to miss spring practice, joining quarterback Zac Lee on the offensive side as returning starters who are sidelined. Henry is recovering from a shoulder injury.

    "It's nothing long-term,'' Pelini said.

Also missing Wednesday's practice was linebacker Mathew May (groin).

A couple familiar faces will be around the program. Former NU quarterback Joe Ganz was hired in January as an intern, and former center Jacob Hickman is serving as a student assistant.

Wednesday also was the starting point for Cody Green and the other young quarterbacks who will see some more practice reps with Lee out. We'll have more on Green and the quarterback situation in Thursday's paper.
